I believe the battery that controls the key entry system is kaput
since none of the functions now work. Any advice on how and where to
obtain a replacement battery, what type, and also, how to go about
changing it. (The last part of the question may sound strange but I
ruined another home electrical device by trying to replace the
battery).

Thanks,
Alan

You can purchase replacement batteries at Radio Shack, hardware store, drug
store, or anywhere that sells button style batteries. According to the
Lexus web site, replacement battery type is 3 volt Panasonic BR1216. I took
a look inside my key and it has a CR 1616 battery, which is slightly larger
than the 1216.

The easiest thing to do would be to go to a Lexus dealer and ask them to
replace the battery for you, or you can replace it yourself if you have a
small Phillips screwdriver. Remove the small Phillips screw on the side of
the key that is opposite from the buttons and open up the key. The module
underneath can be lifted out, and remove the 2 small Phillips screw on the
module. Insert the replacement batter with the plus + side up.
