"The problem does not affect any UK Toyota models."

Why are only US market Toyota/Lexus vehicles being recalled? What
design is unique to the US market that's not there in, say, in UK or
Japanese domestic production?

Maybe Toyota USA uses a floor mat that the other subsidiaries don't use.

You read the part about the recall being due to the mats, right?

Back in the old days, you could see the ground between the gas pedal and
the floor boards. Floor boards were real boards too. I'm not that old
but back in the woods where I grew up they drove those old buggys well
into the 50's and I saw a lot of them working PT in a gas station when I
was 15.

We have become way too fussy and demanding now days, why are special
floor mats even needed. Before long, there will be floor mats to
protect the floor mats. Floor mats causing auto crashes, what the hell
next.

To keep the floormat from sliding under or into the accelerater pedal,
possible causing the pedal to "stick" wide open.

Works well, doesn't it?
