You can use window cleaner sprayed on a soft lint-free cloth to clean and
remove dust from the screen surface.

I haven't had any issues with having to protect the screen.

I use computer monitor screen wipes.

Unless you have talons instead of normal finger nails the screen shouldn't
require protection.
