You all fight it out on the other post if you don't mind.

1999 ES 300 136K miles and the door locks stopped locking automatically when
I put it in gear.
Replaced key fob battery and the auto locks stopped working. Don't know if
that means anything.
Fob will lock and unlock the car.
The locks work manually no problem. Trunk and gas lid work fine also.
I'm hoping it's just a switch or simple replacement of the defective part.

Replacing the fob battery shouldn't have affected it. There is a
programming procedure in your owner's manual for enabling/disabling the
doors locking when it is put in gear. Might be worth checking that to
see if you can turn it back on.

Good luck,

I agree with SJS that replacing the key fob battery has no
relationship to your problem. Does your car have an aftermarket alarm
system/fob? I don't recall that the 99 gen ES had an auto locking
function; I think the first year was the 02 gen ES. But, I could be
wrong about that so checking your owner's manual would still be a good
idea.
