Discussion:
Where to change oil more economically (IS350)?

Every time I tried to use discount coupon for oil change I have been
told that oil filter for IS350 is special order and therefore there is
no discount and I even have to pay extra. This happened to me last
time in AutoNation in BayArea.

So I usually end up going to some expensive place like JiffyLube (~
$35).

Do you find more reasonable prices anywhere?

What is the Toyota part number for the oil filter? Check with you local
Lexus or Toyota dealer, stock up on the filters, and take them to the oil
change place when it is time to change the oil.

By way of curiosity, how much do the oil filters cost for the I class?
I suspect their cost is closer to $50 than to $10, so it is possible
that buying them from Lexas and then taking them out will raise the
cost higher than just doing it in the Lexus garage. Of course it costs
about $150 to change the oil in my LS430, so ....

Well, Toyota has to price the Lexus oil changes like luxury cars. So
some owners will think they've got a luxury car.

Many of these, such as the ES and the RX, are modified Camrys and
shouldn't cost more than $30 across the street at the Toyota
dealership. For example, the following 05-09 Toyotas all use the same
oil filter:

Wix #57047
LEXUS ES 350 V6 3.5L 3456cc
LEXUS GS 350 V6 3.5L 3456cc
LEXUS IS 250 V6 2.5L 2508cc
LEXUS RX 350 V6 3.5L 3456cc
TOYOTA AVALON V6 3.5 3456cc
TOYOTA CAMRY V6 3.5 3456cc
TOYOTA HIGHLANDER V6 3.5 3456cc
TOYOTA RAV4 L4 2.5L FI (2AR-FE)
TOYOTA RAV4 V6 3.5 3456cc
TOYOTA SIENNA V6 3.5L 3456cc 2GRFE
TOYOTA VENZA V6 3.5 3456cc

Along with the entire rest of the world, who also consider a Lexus to
be a luxury car.

What do you drive, john?

Obviously the rest of the world has never driven a Lexus, or if they

According to Wix, looks like the filter is used on various Lexus
models, so I don't think your local Toyota will have them.

LEXUS GS 300 L6 3.0L 2997cc
LEXUS GS 350 V6 3.5L 3456cc
LEXUS GS 450H V6 3.5L Gas/ Electric Motor
LEXUS GS 460 V8 4.6L 4600cc
LEXUS IS 250 V6 2.5L 2508cc
LEXUS IS 350 V6 3.5L 3456cc
LEXUS LS 460 V8 4.6L 4600cc
LEXUS LS 600H L V8 5.0L Gas / Electric

Since it's a low volume item, your best bet is probably go to your
local Lexus dealer. I'm not sure if the local NAPA even stocks the
aftermarket $6.12 #57173 filter. rockauto.com stocks them. Box a few
of them up in the trunk.
