A Toyota spokesman confirmed the settlement Saturday in a statement e-
mailed to the Associated Press. It was first reported on the Los
Angeles Times' Web site Friday night. The company would not specify
terms of the settlement.

The settlement left out one co-defendant -- Bob Baker Lexus, the
dealer that loaned the family the car involved.

"Toyota has sought to protect only its own interests. They decided to
cut out their own dealer," Larry Willis, attorney for Bob Baker Lexus,
told the Times. Willis said the lawsuit against the dealer had not
been dropped.

And why should we care? We don't know why Toyota left the dealer out of
the settlement, do we?

According to the reports I read, the dealer installed incorrect floor mats
in the vehicle, and Toyota is not likely to defend a dealer that does not
follow factory recommendations.

And a dealer that ignored the verbal warning from the driver who had had
those same mats bunch-up on him and trap the gas pedal while he had the car
on loan. The driver I mention was the last guy to have the car before the
SD cop that got killed.

Seems to me the dealership employees were pretty stupid to let something
like that slide.

Well if they didn't sell or lease the car, I don't see how anyone else
is responsible or should be. The real question is why the car was loaned
to them and if there was familial relationships involved.

And again, there's a little key on the right side of the steering
column. It has several positions that anyone who's not a panicky idiot
knows about. And there's also a little metal stick nearby that moves as
well.

Why would Toyota protect a dealer that fucked up? Actually not even
the dealer, but one moron car prep tech.

Amazing how one mistake by a peon is blown out of proportion and
crafted into a lie such as "manufacturing flaw" on Toyotas part.

As much as idiot US-car lovers would like to think it was Toyota's
fault, it was just a mistake by a minimum wage worker.

Too bad you were gullible and bought into it little johnny
shat-the-bed. I bet you're gullible enough to buy Ford/GM as well.
