Post by KlausKI have a '06 ES330 and my dealer wants $460 for 15k mile service.
And people in hell want ice water. What's your point?
They won't get it if they don't ask for it. So they ask. And stupid
people happily give it to them, thinking "well, if I can afford the car,
I damn well better be able to afford the service!"
Meanwhile, back at the Toyota dealer, the same service is a buck fifteen
or less.
Post by KlausKThey say
it takes 3 hours to do it. According to the manual, 15k maintenance includes
oil change & tire rotation plus a bunch of "inspections."
An oil change for ANY car is thirty bucks. Of course, this is the LEXUS
dealer, so they charge $140.
Tire rotation--call it ten bucks per wheel, forty bucks total. Now
we're up to $70 in real world costs. Lexus dealer: $50/wheel.
Inspections? I can guarantee you that the tech won't perform any such
inspections. But you'll have them noted on your record anyway.
There's nothing magical about an oil change on a Toyota V6 engine, nor
about rotating the tires. Yet you'd think a Lexus dealer uses magic air
to run their tools, and special oil squeezed from the anal glands of
Arctic minks or something.
$460? $70 with a reputable mechanic. Save the $400 to pay half your
overblown car payment next month.
Post by KlausKMy questions are: (1) why does it take 3 hours? (2) is it worth $460?
(1) because that's what their book says, although he'll be done in 15
minutes, and (2) no.
