ES300 navigation/stereo button problem

Looked at a used ES300 today that has the integrated stereo/navigation
option and I noticed none of the buttons on the navigation console
worked. All the knobs to control the tuning and volume work, as well
as the touch-screen display seem to work, but the buttons on the
right, left, and bottom portions of the panel don't work at all. This
seems more like a systemic problem where a wire is loose to the
buttons or something rather than the entire system being bad, but I am
wondering if anyone else had this problem?
I'm particularly curious how much this cost, as I will decrease my
offer on the vehicle by a corresponding amount.
Thanks so much in advance!

Also, if it matters, the lexus es300 was a 2003 model.

I am not familiar with the button layout on the 2003 ES, but some buttons
only work when the engine is running and the car is parked.

The nav system buttons are integrated into the nav unit itself; there
are no separate wires to each button. Your best bet is to take the car
to a Lexus dealer to verify the buttons are not working properly and
get an estimate.

Nav functions become unavailable at greater than 3? mph.

There are workarounds to be found on the net, but dealers are forbidden to
implement them.
