You'll need to wash it after claying to remove any residue from the
lubricant.

You wash it first to get rid of any surface dirt.
Then use the clay bar to get what's left out of the paint.
Then wash it again to clean off any residue.

Then wax it well! :-)

What is a clay, or claying?
Clay and claying are clay bars used to detail cars.
See; http://www.autopia-carcare.com/inf-clay.html for a bit more info.

Basically, you use a special clay bar to remove fine particles that are on
and in your paint. This brings the paint back to (like) new condition.*
Then you clean the residue off and apply a quality wax to keep the shine.

Most people who clay their cars do it about twice a year, in spring and
fall.

It's hard and time consuming work but your car will look like a million
dollars** afterwards.

* If your paint is badly oxidized then this won't bring it back from the
dead.

** If you're car is green in color. If it's blue then it will look like a
lot of English 5 pound notes.

I just clayed my TL and did not need to wash after the clay. I used a 4
step process using Megs clay and Mothers detailer as a lube for the clay
bar. Megs kit came a detailer spray which is too watery to be a good lube
and causes the clay to stick to the paint Using the Mothers worked well.
Wash, Clay, Mothers Polish, Mothers Glaze, Mothers carnuba Wax 2 times. If I
lived in the US I'd use Zaino, but Mothers is decent and available in BC.
